Bershas Wed `Crucible' Benefit Tops Hadassah to Alan Snideman Group Activities for February David Brodsky Records Jewish History with Picture Post Cards David Brodsky has parlayed his Jewish identification and love of history and travel into what he believes to be the largest Judaica collection of pic- ture post cards. Brodsky, 23,. of 610 Lakeside, Port Huron, is a junior high school teacher. He says his total collection of 62,000 views from countries all over the world is the second largest in Michigan and includes the largest collec- tion of Michigan views. The picture postcards of Ju- daica consist of views of syna- gogues, Jewish centers, Jewish hospitals, organizations, homes of famous Jewish• personalities,• statues and paintings of the Old Testament and paintings and sculpture reproductions by Jew- ish artists. Soiiiti Brodsky especially prizes his cards of now extinct syna- gogues in Prague, Charbin in the U.S.S.R., and modern syna- gogues in Strasbourg, Elkins Park, Pa., and Gary, Ind. Says Brodsky: "I would like to encourage synagogues to produce glossy, colored or black and white photo cards of their buildings, exterior or interior views. These can be made in color at a nomi- nal price if ordered in lots of 3,000. Several synagogues have done this and have distributed the cards through local drug stores and sold them profitably through .sisterhoods and men's clubs." . Brodsky collects the cards be- cause they help him to keep fresh and lasting remembrances of memorable sights. "I began collecting cards at the age of eight," he says, "starting with about 50 views. I have traveled extensively, visiting many places of Jewish interest and I have also used post cards in teaching. The cards make excellent visual aids of historic, geographical, geological, architectural and agricultural interest, including the humanities." Brodsky next semester will begin a course at Port Huron Junior College, teaching Michi- gan history with post cards. He is a member of Sarnia Lodge of Bnai Brith, secretary of Mt. Sinai Congregation in Port Huron, editor of the synagogue bulletin, publicity chairman of the American Cancer Society, St. Clair County Unit, editor of the Wolverine Post Card News and a past • president of Wol- verine Post Card Club.
