future," he said. "I urge you to
go forward together and we can
make Detroit the best kind of
a community only if we work
together."
Commenting on the references
that were made at the luncheon

executive paid honor to his
wife and her partnership with
him in his work here by stating
that she possessed "the neces-
sary training, intelligence and
feeling towards the social work
field."

leading Jewish woman, remi-
nisced about former directors
of Federations and pointed out
that Sobeloff was the teacher of
many who now head Federa-
tions in other communities.

said Detroit is a better place
to live in thanks to Sobel-

A gathering of leaders in
every walk of life in the De-
troit Jewish community, includ-
ing many pioneers in social
services, acclaimed Isidore Sob-
eloff, executive vice president
of the Jewish Welfare Feder-
ation, at a luncheon at the Sher-
aton Cadillac, Tuesday, on the
occasion of his 25 years of
service in Detroit.
To mark the occasion, a group
of his friends established an
initial fund of $5,000, for the
creation of an Isidore Sobeloff
Community Service Fund, the
use of which is to be designated
by Sobeloff.
Establishment of the special
fund was announced by Max
- M. Fisher, president of the Fed-
eration, who presided at the
luncheon.
In the major address to
Sobeloff's gathered friends,
co-workers and a dmir e r s,
Judge Theodore Levin r e -
viewed the events which cre-
ated a cloud for world Jewry
in 1937, the year of Sobeloff's
arrival here. "His experience
in Detroit is the story of the
great growth of our commu-
nity and the establishment of
a noteworthy social climate
here," Judge Levin said.
Declaring that Sobeloff had
influenced Jewish federations
as well as non-Jewish philan-
thropies, Judge Levin described
Sobeloff's career in Detroit, his
services as director of the War
Chest for all refugee relief agen-
cies during the last war and
his many national positions. He
referred to his numerous pub-
lished papers, to " his guidance
of numerous movements, and

In his response, Sobeloff said
that "the job for all of us is to
recognize the traditions of our
people. Our job can be done
together if we work together."
He emphasized that Detroit
has come to a point that while
we still need capital for future
construction, our future is not
registered in brick and mortar
but in planning and thinking
for great works. He pleaded for
living tributes for intangibles.

Jewish Welfare Federation, is shown greeting Mr. and Mrs.
