Louis M. Elliman, a trustee of
the State of Israel, well known
Detroiter who is a lifelong friend
of Robert Briscoe, Lord Mayor
of Dublin, will be the chairman
of the Hanukah Festival for Is-
rael, Sunday, Dec. 23, 8 p.m.,
in the Fountain Room of Ma-
sonic Temple.
The Detroit Israel Bond Com-
mittee is sponsoring the affair.
Elliman's father was an asso-
ciate of Dr.
Theodor Herzl.
The late Jacob
M. Elliman
was for many
years one of
th e leading
Zionists in Ire-.
land. Elliman's
mother, who
celebrated her
95th birthday
this year, is
still active in
work on behalf
of Israel and
the JNF in
Dublin.
Elliman is
Elliman
president of Elliman Steel Co.
He has been a Detroit resident
for 50 years. Deeply devoted to
his mother, sisters and brothers
and nephews, Elliman has a
standing order with a florist
shop in Dublin that his mother
should receive flowers on every
Sabbath and Jewish festival.
Heading the program at the
Hanukah Festival are Col.
Shlomo Goren, chief chaplain of
the Israel Defense forces, and
Netania Davrath, star of the Is-
rael Opera Company. Miss Dav-
rath scored a musical triumph
on her appearance at the Detroit
Institute of Arts two weeks ago.
Rabbi Issac Stollman, presi-
dent of the Detroit Council of
Orthodox Rabbis a n d former
president of the Mizrachi Organi-
zation of America, will introduce

The Hanukah Festival will cul-
minate the BIG DAY year-end
cash collection campaign when
hundreds of volunteers will seek
to convert Israel Bond pledges
into cash. The volunteers will
gather at the Israel Bond office
at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 23 for a
breakfast to be followed by their
contacting bond purchasers.
One of the highlights of the
festival will be the presentation
by Col. Goren of ceremonial
gavels made of olive wood from
ancient groves in the hills of
Judea above Jerusalem. The
awards will be made to the 10
congregations which led in this
year's High Holy Day Israel
Bond Appeal.

fering a full program of Jewish
religious instruction, along with
a general academic program,
will be established by the Re-
form movement. The proposal
to form such a school was ap-
