in Detroit Jewry and spokesmen
for many organizations and
movements are joining in honor-
ing Judge Ira G. Kaufman, at
the fifth annual dinner of Merkos
L'Inyonei Chinuch (Chabad Lu-
hold its pre-Hanukah dinner-
dance 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the
synagogue, under the chairman-
ship of Manny Lax.
Cocktails will precede dinner
and music for dancing will be
provided by Sam Barnett and
his orchestra.
A holiday program will be
highlighted by Cantor Nicholas
Fenakel and the Zamarim Inter
national Folksingers. Rabbi
Jacob E. Segal will tell a num-
ber of traditional Hanukah
stories.
Idwin I. Cohn and John Sklar
will be presented testimonial
plaques in recognition of their
service to the synagogue.
The affair is under the spon-
sorship of the Sisterhood, Men's
Club and the Married Couples
Club, according to Synagogue
President J. Maurice Karo.
Serving on the committee are
Karo, Max H. Goldsmith, Joseph
Koenig, William Shulman, Mrs.
Koenig, William Zimmerman
and Mr. and Mrs. Nat Goldstone.

the Detroit committee for the
Chabad vocational schools in
Israel, will introduce Judge Kauf-
man and present him with a
plaque.
Charles Feinberg, chairman of
the camping committee, will
present a citation to Barney
Citrin "in recognition of his faith-
ful service to Camp Gan-Israel
of Michigan."
Bringing greetings from the
Lubavitcher Rabbi and from
the Merkos schools in Israel,
from which he recently re-
turned, will be Rabbi Aaron
Kazarnovsky, of New York,
vice president of Agudath
Chabad.

Hordes stated that Judge
Kaufman is being honored for
his "dedicated devotion to the
education and practical training
of Jewish youth, in the spirit of
our heritage."
Rabbi David B. Hollander,
former president of the Rabbin-
ical Council of America and first
rabbi since the 1917 Revolution
to visit Russian Jewry by official
authorization of the Russian Em-
bassy, will speak at the dinner
about anti-Semitism and the sur-
vival of Judaism in Russia and
its satellites.
Hordes will be toastmaster.

Mischa Mischakoff, concert
master of the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra, will present a pro-
gram of Hasidic melodies.
The dinner will benefit the
Chabad schools which train and
educate 30,000 boys and girls
and also sponsor the movement's
camps.

Schumer are: Mrs. Emma Scha-
ver, women's committee; Isadore
Starr, arrangements committee;
Dr. Israel Wiener, treasurer; Er-
nest Citron, secretary, and Julius
