Common Pleas Judge George
D. Kent will be honored by
several hundred Detroit-area
attorneys a n d businessmen
Monday, at a luncheon at the
Sheraton-Cadillac Hotel, sched-
uled in conjunction with Judge
Kent's campaign to retain his
Common Pleas post this spring.
The former Chief of the
Wayne County Prosecuting At-
torney's Homicide Division was
named to the bench July 9 by
Governor Swainson. Judge Kent
was appointed an assistant
prosecuting attorney for Wayne
County in 1949 by then-Prosecu-
tor Gerald K. O'Brien. An at-
torney for 21 years, he served
for 13 years as special criminal
trial attorney in major felony
investigations and court trials.
Prior to that, he was at attor-
ney for the National War Labor
and National Wage Stabilization
Boards from 1945 to 1947.
A wounded Infantryman in
World War II, Judge Kent was
discharged honorably in 1945.
He holds the combat infantry
badge and two bronze stars
with battle clusters.
A native Detroiter, he. at-
tended Northern High School,
Wayne State University and
was graduated from Detroit Col-
lege of Law in 1940 with a bach-
elor of Laws degree.
Judge Kent is active in the
Wayne County Civic League,
Cong. Ahavas Achim, William
P. Tutro Post Veterans of For-
eign Wars, Downtown Lodge
1641 of Bnai Brith and North-
west Improvement Association.
