Talmud Scholar, Noted Educator, Max Gordon Dies Max Gordon, who for many years was among the most dis- tinguished Detroit Jewish edu- cators, who was known as a Talmudist and linguist, died at Harper Hospital Monday. An unfortunate miscalculation a t the hospital caused his body to remain there until late • Wed- nesday, a n d funeral services were arranged for this morning at Kaufman Chapel on Nine Mile Road. Born in April 1886, in Vilna, Lithiania, Mr. Gordon was ed- ucated in schools there and completed four classes of Gym- nasia, thus mastering Russian and other languages in addi- tion to Hebrew and Yiddish.
