Crespo Is Elected
President of Uruguay

Council in Monday's national and
local elections.
Daniel Fernandez Crespo, who
will be 1963 President of the
Uruguayan Republic under this
country's "collegiate system,"
visited Israel last summer and
lauded Israel's achievements
here after his return. He was
formerly Mayor of Montevideo.
One of the newly elected sen-
ators is Adolfo Tejera, promin-
ent as an anti-Nazi. He has also
visited Israel in the past, pub-
lishing a book with highly fav-
orable impressions of the Jew-
ish State. The local Jew chosen
to the Municipal Council is Dan-
iel Orzuch, 24, a medical stu-
dent at the University of Monte-
video. His father, is the pub-
lisher of a Yiddish newspaper
here, the Daily Folksblatt.
