activities in Society Altshuler-Weissman New RS 'Torah' Translation Becomes Book-of-Month Choice Engagement Told Lesser Zussman, executive director of the Jewish Publication Society of America, made known at head- quarters of the society in Philadelphia this week that "The Torah" (Five Books of Moses), the revised trans- lation to be off the press soon, has been made an alternate choice for books offered by the Book-of-the- Month Club for February. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Yura, former Detroiters, will be the guests of honor in celebration of their golden wedding anniver- sary at the annual champagne dinner of the Children's Aid of Cedars-Sinai Hospitals Sunday at Sinai Temple, 10400 Wilshire, Hollywood, Calif. They are life members of the Children's Aid. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Yura, a son and daughter-in-law, will be present from Detroit. The Detroiters' gifts were given after hearing an im- passioned appeal for the insti- tution by Joey Adams, well known stage-radio-TV star, and Ben Horowitz, the City of Hope's executive director. In his address in which he evaluated the medical center's accomplishments, Horowitz de- scribed the City of Hope as being both a hospital and re- search center that possesses a humanitarian ideology. Horowitz spoke of the cen- ter as being a pilot medical institution that has pioneered in introducing many new medical technological dis- coveries that have influenced medicine. He spoke of the new techniques undertaken at the City of Hope and the acclaim they have won from doctors, medical institutions and the U. S. Government— the Iatter's in the form of grants to enable the continua- tion of the center's activities. Shiffman-Rabotnick Engagement Told MISS MARY SHIFFMAN Mr. and Mrs. David J.
