At a special open house meeting held last week, the Hillel
Day School of Metropolitan Detroit received its official perma-
nent charter from the Department of Public Education of the
State of Michigan. Shown above is Dr. James M. Pepper,
superintendent of the Oak Park Public Schools, presenting
the 30-year charter on behalf of the State of Michigan to
Rabbi Jacob E. Segal, president of Hillel Day School. The
school, which began in 1958 with 29 students, now has an
enrollment of 130 pupils, with a kindergarten and five full
grades, providing an intensive curriculum• in both Hebrew
and general studies. The school is now located at the Ten
Mile Branch of the Jewish Center in Oak Park.
