Mrs. Philip R. Marcuse of Detroit was a discussion leader
last week at the 31st General Assembly of the Council of Jewish
Federations and Welfare Funds held at the Hotel Sheraton in
Philadelphia.

The Kaplan Family Club will install officers Sunday at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Mel Wasserman, 29828 Curtis, Livonia.
Over one hundred relatives and friends gathered at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney W. Cohn (Sarah Brown), 21671
Kenosha, Oak Park, last Sunday evening for cocktails and a
catered buffet supper. The occasion was the Cohns' 25th wedding
anniversary. Their daughter and son, Natalie and Norman Cohn,
hosted the party.
Mr. and Mrs. Maurice I. Bale will celebrate their 40th wed-
ding anniversary on Nov. 27. They have a son, Ted, and three
grandchildren. The Joseph L. Bale Post of the Jewish War Vet-
erans is named in memory of their other son killed in World

Weisgal Gets ,His Age in Cash Gift
to Weizmann Ins titute of Science

A British donor has marked
the 68th birthday of the Weiz-
mann Institute's Meyer W. Weis-
gal in a unique manner.
She presented 1,000 pounds
sterling for each year of his
life, totalling 68,000 pounds
sterling, or close to $200,000,
to the endowment fund of the
Weizmann Institute of Science
in Israel, of which Weisgal is
chairman of the executive coun-
cil. He observed his birthday

Waive Jail for Couple
Who Harbored Yoselle

JERUSALEM, (JTA) — A
couple who pleaded guilty to
charges of having harbored Yo-
selle Schumacher, the Israeli
boy hidden from his parents
by Orthodox elements for nearly
two years, were sentenced this
week to suspended one-year
prison terms. The Jerusalem dis-
trict court also fined the pair,
Rachel and Zalman Kutt, mem-
bers of the Orthodox village of
Kommemiut, 750 pounds ($250)
each The suspended sentences
will remain in effect for three
years.
