The Israel Book Exhibit, un-
der the personal auspices of
Avraham Harman, Israel's am-
bassador to the United States,
will be launched at 1:45 p.m.
and will continue to Nov. 16.

The Jewish Educators' Con-
ference will begin at 2 p.m.
This session is sponsored by
the JNF Youth and Educa-
tion Committee, in coopera-
tion with the Directors' Coun-
cil of Jewish Religious
Schools of Metropolitan De-
troit. The theme of the con-
ference is "Israel in the
Classroom."

time, according to Morris J
Brandwine, JNF president, an-
nouncement will be made of
a new all-Detroit project to aid
t he settlements of Gadot and
Mishmar Hayarden in Israel.
Major speaker on the morn-
ing agenda will be Rabbi
Charles E. Shulman, author,
lecturer and spiritual leader of
Riverdale Temple in New York
City.
Presentations will be made
on four key areas of JNF ac-
tivity by William Hordes, re-
gional chairman, "Foundation
for JNF;" William Biderman
of New York, national director
of the Youth and Education
Department of the Jewish Na-
tional Fund of America, "Youth
and Education in JNF;" Mrs.
William Levin, vice-president of
the JNF Women's Auxiliary,
"Symbols—The Tree and The
Blue-White Box;" and Harry
Kaminer, chairman of the
Landsmanshaften Committee for
JNF, "Organizations in JNF."-
JNF delegates will be

joined at the luncheon ses-
sion by several hundred
teachers who will participate
in the Educators' Conference
in the afternoon, under the
chairmanship of Dr. Norman
Drachler of the Detroit Board
of Education and director of
Temple Beth El Religious
School. Greetings will be
given by Dr. Israel Wiener,
chairman of JNF Youth-Ed-
ucation.

The Israel Books Exhibit, of
which Dr. Samuel Krohn is
chairman, is being brought to
Detroit by Sifrel Israel, Inc.,
sole representative of the Book
Publishers Association of Is-
rael.
In attendance for the open-
ing of the Books Exhibit will
be Dan Levy, • Israel Consul in
Cleveland, 0., and representa-
tive of the Government of Is-
rael Investment Authority.
Among the events in connec-
tion with the exhibit will be
the appearance on Nov. 12 of
the noted Hebrew writer and
lecturer Abraham S. Halkin. He
is associate professor of Jewish
history at the Jewish Theologi-
cal Seminary of America and
is professor of Hebrew at the
City College of New York.
A former lecturer at Colum-
bia Universty as well, Halkin
is secretary of the American
Academy for Jewish Research.
He is affiliated with the Society
of Biblical Literature, the
American Oriental Society, Jew-
ish Historical Society of Israel
and the Israel Exploration So-
ciety.
• Halkin is the author of "Mos-
lem ' Schisms and Sects," "Mai-
monides Epistle to the Jews of
Yeman," and "Zion in Jewish
Literature."
