Romney Pledges Fight Against Discrimination

"Fundamental to our Ameri-
can way of life is complete free-
dom of worship and conscience
and separation of church and
state," according to George
Romney, Republican candidate
for Governor, in a recent pub-
lic statement. He continued:
"Here in this nation founded
on the Judeo-Christian concept
of the divine origin of man,
Jews have fought side by side

color or creed, and I want to
see it ended.
"I am equally opposed to
more subtle but just as vicious
forms of discrimination in em-
ployment. Every citizen must
be judged not by his race or
creed, but by his worth as an
individual.
"As Governor of Michigan, I

with good men of other faiths
to wipe out discrimination and
intolerence of every kind. Hav-
ing been a victim of religious
persecution in my own child-
hood, I have throughout my life
shared fully in this inter-faith
effort to achieve justice and
equality for every man.
"I am especially proud that
my efforts in this field earned
recognition by the Anti-Defa-
mation League of Bnai Brith in
the form of their American
Democratic Living Award in
1959.
"I am unalterably opposed to
discrimination and segregation
in housing. I believe this is
now the most serious area of
injustice for people who hap-
pen to be of a minority race,
