Israel Eyes Nasser
Forces in Yemen as
Arab Rivalry Grows.

TEL AVIV, (JTA) — Israel
officials were reported to be
watching closely the inter-Arab
rivalries evoked by the revolu-
tion in Yemen, particularly the
activities of Egypt, which is
taking an active role in the
Yemen turmoil.
Informed opinion- here was
that President Nasser of Egypt
was seeking to strike at Saudi
Arabia, which has been aiding
the Royal FaMily in Yemen
against the revolutionaries, and
at Jordan, a Saudi Arabian ally,
by his intervention in the Civil
War.
It was reliably reported here
that the number of Egyptian
troops taking part in that war
was greater than the number of
Yemen royalist soldiers, and
that almost an entire Egyptian
armored brigade was fighting
with the revolutionaries.

A three - pronged program,
aimed at creating a better un-
derstanding of its work in Is-
rael, is planned for Nov. 11 by
the Jewish National Fund Coun-
cil of Detroit.
According to Morris J. Brand-
wine, JNF president, the all-
day sessions at the Jewish Cen-
ter will be highlighted by the
following:
1. The annual State Confer-
ence, to begin at 10 a.m., when
official announcement will be
made of a new all-Detroit proj-
ect to aid the settlements of
Gadot and Mishmar Hayarden
near the Syrian border.
2. An -Educators' Conference,
open to all religious and He-
brew school teachers in Detroit
and the surrounding areas,
which will emphasize "Teaching
Israel in the Classrooms."
3. The opening of a week-
long Israel Book Exhibit, to be
held in con-
junction with
Jewish Book
Month and
Book Fair ac-
tivities at the
Center.
Nathaniel
H. Goldstick,
former Corpo-
ration Counsel
for the City of
Detroit, is
serving as
chairman of
t h e morning
Goldstick
conference, which is expected
to attract several hundred dele-
gates representing over 100
Jewish organizations through-
out Michigan.
Meeting in the Aaron DeRoy
Theater, the delegates will hear
reports on JNF activities con-
ducted during the past year and
will make major decisions con-
cerning the Detroit Land De-
velopment project.
The first project to be identi-
fied exclusively with the De-
troit Jewish community, it will
be a major undertaking to re-
build the two settlements of
Gadot and Mishmar Hayarden,
which were eompletely destroy-
ed by the Syrians in the War
of Liberation in 1948. Both set-
tlements are situated in an area
of fertility, its residents occu-
pied in building rich farming
villages and periodically ward-
ing off the blows of Syrian ag-
gression. While progress has
been steady, the farmers are
handicapped by not having the
equipment and
heavy machin-
ery to move
large boul-
ders, which
have made
major recla-
mation as yet
impossible,
Goldstick said.
Rabbi Charles
E. Shulman,
author, orator
a n d spiritual
leader of New
York, will be Rabbi Shulman
the major speaker at the morn-
ing sessions.
Delegates will be joined at
the 12:30 p.m. luncheon session
by several hundred teachers
participating in the Educators'
Conference and Israel Books
Exhibit, for which Dr. Samuel
Krohn serves as chairman.
In carrying out the theme of
the Educators' Conference —
'Teaching Israel in the Class-
rooms" — there will be four
workshop sessions:
