of Michigan is holding a cul-
tural meeting beginning at 8:30
p.m. The public is invited.
They will present Dr. Stan-
ley F. Chyet, noted historian
and speaker, director of the
American
Jewish Ar-
chives, w h o
will speak on
"The Chang-
ing Role of
American
Jewry."
Chyet is an
assistant pro-
fessor o f
Chyet American
Jewish History at the Hebrew
Union College.
Opening night will also be
marked by a meeting of the
board of governors of the Mid-
west Section of the National
Jewish Welfare Board when
Dr. Judah J. Shapiro, execu-
tive secretary of the National
Jewish Culture Foundation,
New York, will discuss "The
Role of the Center in the De-
velopment of an American Jew-
ish Culture."
Dr. Shapiro will address the
Book Fair audience again on
Nov. 4, at 2 p.m., on "The Jew-
ish Trinity — The Book, The
Thought and the Action."
On Nov. 4, from 2-4 p.m.,
Mrs. Bertha Jenkinson, the

children's librarian at the
Oak Park Library, will con-
duct a story-telling hour for
kindergartners and grades 1-3.
Center Theatre will celebrate
opening night with its first
presentation of Paddy Chayef-
sky's "Middle of the Night."
The play will be repeated on
Nov. 4, 10 and 11.
Dr. Ernst Scheyer, professor
of art history at Wayne State
University, will give an illus-
trated lecture
o n "Modern
Art in Israel—.
I t s Architec-
ture, Scul p-
ture, Painting
a n d Graphic
Art," on Nov.
4 at 8:30 p.m.
He has been
a research
Scheyer
fellow at the

Detroit Institute of Arts, a lec-
turer at the Cranbrook Acad-
emy of Arts and a guest pro-
fessor at the University of Mich-
igan. He is currently an Assist-
ant Editor of "Criticism," a
Wayne State publication.

of the Book Fair,

will grace the 11th Annual Jew-
ish Book Fair and Arts Festival
to be held from Nov. 3-20 at
the Jewish Community Center,
18100 Meyers.
As a backdrop for the numer-
ous lectures, meetings, lunch-
eons, concerts, story - telling
hours and dramatic perform-
ances, there will be five exhib-
its on display for the three-
week period of the Fair.
Nearly 5,000 current books
and about 2,000 paperbacks,
both fiction and non-fiction,
children's and adult books, will
be on sale. All are by Jewish
authors or of Jewish content
with the exception of some of
the children's books. Records
will also be on sale, at discount
prices.
All books and records have
been selected by a committee
