great man of science and a man
of his people. His whole per-
sonality was deeply rooted in
the soil of Judaism, in Jewish
history, in the life and fate of
the Jewish people. With all his
European culture and scientific
outlook, he remained a dweller
in the "Tents of Shem," and to
his Jewish cultural heritage he
turned as the first and last
sources of wisdom and spiritual
inspiration.
At the same time, Weizmann
was a son of his period, aware
of the problems that confronted
the world as a whole, as well as
the country in which he lived
and of which he was a citizen.

which- had no direct connection
with the problem of the Jewish
people and its future. Had he
wished, he could have attained
fame and honor and achieved
political success outside the
arena of Jewish affairs. But he
chose the more difficult road
and devoted his genius and
ability, his physical and spir-
itual powers to one thing only—
the solution of the Jewish
problem.
Weizmann was both a man of

lofty goal of the restoration of
the Jewish people to its home-
land. He recognized the value
of every step that brought that
great and desired aim nearer.
He realized that political work
must go hand in hand with prac-
tical upbuilding. Constant, even
if not mass immigration, the
creation of agriculture and in-
dustry, of scientific and cultural
nuclei, would lay the founda-
tions for changing the fate of
the Jewish people in the world.

TEL AVIV, (JTA) — Seven
persons were injured, and at
least 30 arrested, in a clash in
Rishon Lezion between large
numbers of Jewish and Arab
youngsters. The riot, in which
knives, stones and clubs were
used, developed over charges
that a number of local Arabs
had allegedly made approaches
to a Jewish girl.
