Green Heads AJC Cash Collection Irwin Green, big gifts co- chairman of the 1962 Allied Jewish Campaign, and former chairman of the campaign's million dollar mechanical trades Division, heads Detroit's cash collection committee. An urgent national appeal for immediate payments of pledges to the United Jewish Appeal, major beneficiary of the Allied Jewish Campaign, was issued nationally by Israel D. Fink, national UJA cash committee chairman. _ Green stated: "The spring phase of the national UJA cash drive made it possible for thousands of Jews to enter Israel and to reach other havens of safety. In addition. it enabled our UJA agencies to keep their lifelines open to hundreds of thousands of Jews in more than a score of countries. By the middle of this past summer the immigration into Israel had already exceeded the total for the entire year of 1961. Events in Algeria have forced an exo- dus out of that country which reduced its Jewish population from 130,000 to less than 20,000. The flow and movement of Jews on the road continues un- abated."
