and terrorist organizations have
been carrying out a widespread
campaign of armed violence and
vandalism against democratic
and Jewish institutions, and
against Jews, with "apparent
immunity" from police action.
The organizations, which are
strongly anti-United States, ap-
pear to have the support of
some Argentine army officers.
In many instances of violence,
the police have not taken any
action to apprehend the per-
petrators. However, both the
government and the army are
officially opposed to these anti-
democratic groups.
Abram identified a group
known as Tacuara as one of
the more important neo-fascist
groups.
Abram also dealt with the
condition of Jews within the
Soviet Union. He pointed out
that there situation "continues
to worsen," and that "Soviet
legislation is being applied with
particular severity to Jews as is
clearly demonstrated by their
high ratio among the death sen-
tences reported in Soviet news-
papers." He pointed out that
there are three main areas
where "repression" is partic-
ularly strong, namely (1) relig-
ous observance is harrassed in
increasing measure (2) educa-
tional and cultural self-expres-
sion is thwarted (3) legal stand-
ards recognized by civilized
countries are set aside.
Judge Wise Lists
Traditions, Urges
Citizens to Vote
In a series of addresses he
gave in the past two weeks,
Judge John M. Wise has ap-
pealed to De-
troit citizens to
register f o r
the coming
election and to
be sure to vote
on Nov. 6.
Pointing out
that only a few
days are left
before the
deadline f o r
Judge Wise . registrations
on Oct. 6, Judge Wise said:
"One of our responsibilities
and duties is to exercise our
privilege to vote. In some South-
ern states a lot of our people are
just obtaining such a privilege
after years of sweat and toil, and
we are not through because the
job isn't complete yet. And here
in our own country and state we
take this for granted.
"I care not for what party you
vote, be it Democratic or Repub-
lican, nor for what person; the
important thing is to exercise
your privilege and do your duty
as a good American citizen and
vote."
To emphasize the point he was
making, Judge Wise said he sub-
scribed to this statement by his
namesake, John Wise, an ances-
tor of the American Revolution
and a clergyman of Ipswich:
"The end of all good government
is to cultivate humanity and pro-
mote the happiness of all, and
the good of every man in his
rights, his life, liberty, estate and
honor, without injury or abuse
to any."
