BONN, (JTA)—Prof. Rudolf
Schiedermair, president of the
Bavarian Administrative Court
in Wuerzberg, who has been
charged with participation in
Nazi terror judgments in spe-
cial wartime courts in occupied
Norway, asked that he be sus-
pended from office.
He made the request after
a West German government
spokesman disclosed that ef-
forts were being made to ob-
tain court records from Nor-
way where Dr. Schiedermair
was sentenced in 1949 to two
years' imprisonment for par-
ticipation in judgments which
resulted in death sentences for
relatively minor offenses. In his
request, made in Wuerzberg,
the jurist also asked that dis-
ciplinary proceedings be started
against him.
The West German Interior
Ministry, describing the case as

an "unpleasant" one, said that
Dr. Schiedermair did not indi-
cate, when he joined the West
German judiciary, that he had
been an SS officer and that he
had worked in the Nazi party
central office in drafting plans
for the "final solution of the
Jewish question" in Bohemia
and Moravia.
The jurist previously said he
had been cleared of Nazi col-
laboration by a special court
in Oslo. The Ministry of the
Interior on Tuesday asked the
Oslo court to furnish relevant
documents on the jurist's 1949
conviction and sentencing.
The jurist also said, prior to
his request for suspension, that
he had worked in the Nazi In-
terior Ministry where he took
part in the drafting of the racist
Nuremberg laws. He said he
worked in that post under Hans
Globke, now State Secretary in
the - office of Chancellor Kon-
rad Adenauer. That statement
was denied here by Dr. Globke,
who said that the jurist had not
worked in the same department
with him but in another one.

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Re-
ports that the tomb of the
former Chief Rabbi Abraham
Isaac Kook in the centuries-old
Jewish cemetery on Jordanian-
held Mount of Olives, has been
demolished by Jordanian bull-
dozers, gave rise to expressions
of grief and shock here Sept. 24.
The executive of the Mizrachi-
Hapoel Hamizrachi organization
adopted a resolution sharply
protesting the desecration of
one of Jewry's sacred shrines.
The resolution , which was for-
warded to the Foreign Ministry,
was adopted after reports on
the desecration were presented
to the organization by Interior
Minister Moshe Shapira and Dr.
Yosef Burg, Minister of Social
Welfare.

Catholics Urge
Germans Atone
for All Crimes

MUNICH (JTA)—The Roman
Catholic Bishops of Germany
called upon their constituent
communities to "atone for all
crimes committed by wicked
dictators in the name of our
people against fundamental
human rights." The call was
issued in a pastoral letter on
the occasion of the forthcom-
ing Ecumenical Council to be
held in Rome next month.
Officials of the University of
Wuerzburg said today a deci-
sion would be made soon on
whether Dr. Rudolf Schieder-
mair would be suspended as a
professor of law in view of
charges against him in connec-
tion with his role as a Nazi
jurist.
Dr. Schiedermair asked that
he be suspended from his post
as president of the Bavarian
Administrative Court pending
a review of the case. The West
German Interior Ministry, in
announcing its investigation,
said the jurist had not indi-
cated, when he joined the West
German judiciary, that he had
been an SS officer and that he
had worked in the Nazi central
office in drafting plans for the
"final solution of the Jewish
question" in Bohemia and Mo-
ravia."

Histadrut Stresses
Public Welfare Over
Individual Cooperatives

(Direct JTA Teletype Wire
to The Jewish News)

JERUSALEM —H is t a drut
stressed Tuesday that it would
not allow the public welfare in
Israel to be overruled by the
interests of any individual co-
operative.
The issue developed when
Pinhas Sapir, Israel's Minister
of Commerce and Industry, said
he had not changed his mind
about the need to transfer
slaughterhouse services from
cooperatives to local authori-
ties. He said that, contrary to
earlier reports, he would insist
on implementation of a minis-
terial subcommittee recommen-
dation to that effect.
Aaron Becker, Histadrut sec-
retary general, said Histadrut
had no objections to the trans-
ferred decision but that the
Histadrut wanted to be con-
sulted if any ministers' de-
cision would entail disbanding
of any cooperative. To this he
added the stand that to Hista-
drut the public welfare was
paramount.
