Jewish Population in
Turkey Totaled 43,000
in 1960; Is Smaller Now
ISTANBUL (JTA)—Turkey's
total Jewish population in 1960
was 43,000, according to of-
ficial census figures issued here
by the government. Of the
total, 35,485 lived in this city.
Jewish leaders stated that the
overall Jewish population in
the country is somewhat smaller
now than it was in 1960, due
to emigration, principally to
Israel.
