BUENOS AIRES, (JTA)-Dr.
Mateo Goldstein, a former Ar-
gentine Judge and veteran
Zionist leader in this country,
died here Sept. 5 at the age of
54. A former president of the
Argentine Zionist Organization,
and of the Latin American Con-
federation of General Zionists,
Dr. Goldstein, who settled in
Israel several years ago, was
here on an economic mission.
Born in Argentina, Dr. Gold-
stein was a civil judge in San
Juan from 1934 to 1942 when
he went into private practice as
an attorney in Buenos Aires. A
columnist for • various Latin
American - Jewish newspapers,
he had long been active in Zion-
ist circles and was a member
of the Argentine delegation to
the 23rd World Zionist Con-
gress in Jerusalem. He was the
author of various works on Jew-
ish law and on Israel and Theo-
dore Herzel, all in Spanish,
