TEL AVIV, (JTA) — Mane
Katz, internationally famous
Jewish artist who only two
weeks ago was honored by the
French government with a dec-
oration as an officer of the Le-
gion of Honor, died in a hos-
pital here Sept. 8. He was 68.
He had already held the rank
of member of the French Le-
gion of Honor, awarded in 1951.
He had studios in New York
and in Paris.
Katz, who was born in Ukrai-
nia, Russia, in 1894, was taken
ill in Paris two weeks ago.
Friends brought him here and
had him hospitalized_ The noted
painter had exhibited his works
to great acclaim in every major
!gallery in most of the art cen-
ters of the Western world.
Funeral services were held
Monday in Haifa.
