Hillel Day School
Begins 5th Year
in New Quarters
Rabbi Jacob E. Segal, presi-
dent, announces that the Hillel
Day School of Detroit has begun
its fifth year of operation in its
new quarters at the Jewish
Center, 15110 Ten Mile, Oak
Park.
The school has realized a 50
per cent increase in its student
enrollment since last June, the
number of pupils having risen
from 85 to over 125.
The teaching staff now in-
cludes 17 certified instructors
in both the Hebrew and general
studies departments. Included
on the- staff are specialized
teachers in the departments of
science, music, art, speech ther-
apy and physical education.
A competent psychologist
serves as consultant for student
tests and achievement measure-
ments, with additional special-
ized consultants in Hebraic and
general studies. Heading the
faculty is the newly-engaged
principal, Rabbi Abraham Zent-
man.
Hillel Day School now in-
cludes a kindergarten and ele-
mentary grades one through
five. The goal is to add a grade
each year until the full elemen-
tary complement of eight grades
has been reached.

open in the first and second

Detroit Chapter of Hadassah
will hold an all-day education
seminar 10 a.m. Sept. 24 at
Hadassah House, announced
Mrs. Samuel Grandon, vice-
president of education.
The morning session of study
groups will be conducted by
Mrs. Louis Jaffee, chapter chair-
man. In the afternoon, lecturers
will discuss Jewish art.
Special emphasis will be
placed on the stained glass
windows created by Marc Cha-
gall for the synagogue of the
Hadassah - Hebrew University
Medical Center in Kiryat Ha-
dassah, Israel. An art exhibit
and slides will be shown in con-
nection with this portion of the
program.
Mrs. Grandon said members
are invited to participate in
study groups which are con-
ducted by each Hadassah group.
The study groups and occa-
sional education seminars, she
said, are designed to equip
members with a knowledge of
their Jewish heritage.
