Plymouth State Home
Will Hold Program
for Registered Nurses

The staff of the Plymouth
State Home and Training School
will hold the first of a series of
afternoon programs for various
community groups 1:30 p.m.
Sept. 19.
The first program will be for
registered nurses living in the
Detroit metropolitan area. All
nurses are invited.
Featured as a part of the pro-
gram will be a talk by Dr. Rob-
errI. Jaslow, superintendent of
the hospital. Tours of the hos-
pital's various patient buildings
will also be provided.
"The purpose of the series of
programs we plan to hold," Dr.
Jaslow stated, "is to acquaint
the public with our facilities
and programs. I believe that
members of the community
should be more aware than they
are of the mentally retarded,
their problems, and what can
be done to help them. It is a
community problem, not just
our problem."
The hospital, opened in 1960,
currently consists of a Hospital-
Administration Building, a Tod-
dler's Building, and an Infirm-
ary Building with a combined
capacity of almost 700 mentally
retarded patients. Construction
of two new buildings, one a
service building and the other
a 220-bed patient building, is
expected to begin shortly. The
new patient building will be
ready for occupancy next August.
The hospital is located at the
intersection of Five Mile and
Sheldon roads, Northville.

Roadside Parks developed
along Michigan's state highways
have become models for other
states. The first fully-equipped
roadside park in the nation was
built in Michigan in 1935.

`Holidays in Israel'
Film Is Available
Free to Organizations

Program chairmen, arranging
meetings for the coming season,
will be interested in a beautiful
and interesting film, recorded
and photographed in full color
in Israel.
This publication has been
authorized to offer the film free
for showings to Jewish organi-
zations in our area.
The picture, "Holidays in Is-
rael," has been shown nearly
1,000 times to Jewish (and some
non-Jewish) clubs, sisterhoods,
chapters of national organiza-
tions, etc., all over the United
States, Canada and the Panama
Canal Zone. It has been hailed
as an artistic triumph, filled
with Jewish spirit and the en-
thusiasm of the people of the
State of Israel.
"Holidays in Israel" depicts
the celebration of Passover and
Shevuoth in "Eretz Yisroel."
Many of the customs and cere-
monies are exactly like ours in
America (the Seder, for in-
stance); many are unique with
the Israelis. Mixed in with the
ceremonial observance and the
national celebration are color
shots of the land itself and the
people. Israeli music and native
dances add their own charm.
"Holidays in Israel" is a 28-
minute picture, non-commercial,
although it is made available to
Jewish organizations by a lead-
ing American food company.
All that any program committee
need do is to provide a screen,
a projector (wired for sound),
return postage on the reel of
film, and somebody to run the
machine. The rest is free.
Program chairmen who want
to book "Holidays in Israel" are
advised to write for details and
open dates to the sponsor: Film
Dept., H. J. Heinz Co., P.O. Box
57, Pittsburgh 30, Pa. You will
receive a prompt reply. The edi-
tor would appreciate it if you
mention this paper when you
write to Heinz.

Agnon and Shamir. Dr. Aaron
Bar-Adon, Wayne State Univers-
ity assistant professor of Near
Eastern Languages and *Litera-
ture, will conduct. the course.
Registrations for these classes
and the more than 100 other
courses offered by the University
Center for Adult Education may
be made at the Center's office,
the Rackham Educational Mem-
orial, Farnsworth at Woodward.
