Nothing was said or done about it until one was proposed in Oak Park. A group of selfish people have seen fit to fight it. Evidently they don't have parents who need such a village. These vil- lages have been a huge success in other areas and the need for it here is very great. The Oak Park-Southfield area is the only one with the needed land. NATIVE DETROITER * * * COMMENTARY CRITICIZED Editor, The Jewish News: Usually your "Purely Com- mentary' column is intelligently written and stimulating to thought. This week I think that Mr. Slomovitz pulled a boner. Our State Department told Mike Feldman, a Kennedy aide, that his views on Israel were his own and not necessarily those of the US government. To this fact, Mr. Slomovitz writes that "it must have been a Re- publican in the State Depart- ment who did that to Mike," and gives the reason that "no Democrat would have been so unwise as to choose so critical a time as the present" (with state elections coming) to re- buke Feldman's or Kennedy's feelings toward Israel. Mr. Slomovitz neglects to realize that most important positions in our government are held byDemocrats. He ignores the obvious fact that both Dem- ocrats and Republicans are run- ning for election in November and_ that neither party would Criterion Club: , want to antagonize: any group, Much less Republicans who are Will Make Debut an the _defensive.
