LEE-BOWMAN: Sylvia Bow-
man was wed to Norman Lee
on July 7 at Temple Israel. The
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
H. Lebowsky, she was attended
by her daughters, Sandye and
Hedy Bowman. Members of the
immediate family attended the
rites. The bride wore a blue,
street-length sheath dress with
beading at the bodice, compli-
mented by a simple blue-veiled
hat. Louis Lee served his
brother as best man. The couple
honeymeoned in Nassau.

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Shindel,
18696 Griggs, will be guests of
honor at a party celebrating
their golden wedding anniver-
sary Saturday at Northwood
Inn.
Mr. Shindel, a builder for
many years, is now retired.
Present at the party will be

their children, Mr. and Mrs.
Alvin B. Tutnick, Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Shindel, Mr. and Mrs. Sol

1,500 New Foster
Homes Sought

The chairman of the 1962
Committee for Foster Children,
Harold Silver. director of the
Jewish Family and Children's
Service. reperted that 387 let-
ters of application have been
received by the committee and
more than 100 direct phone calls
made to the agencies so far in
an effort to assure every child
a proper home in Wayne, Oak-
land and Macomb Counties.
The 12 U-F agency members
of the Committee, early in May,
during Foster Child Week, set
out to find 1,500 new foster
homes during 1962.
Their project received full
support and cooperation of pub-
lic officials in all three coun-
ties, PTA. Circuit Court judges,
Catholic, .Jewish and Protestant
clergy.

rector of the
Jewish Na-

Philadelphia and surrounding
territory, a post he held for 19
years. He came to the United
States in 1940, at the beginning
of World War II, from Belgium,
where he had been Jewish
National Fund director for five
years.
Born in Vilna, Stein taught
in the Tarbut schools there un-
til 1925, when he went to study
economics in Belgium. After
gaining a doctorate at the Uni-
versity of Ghent, he continued
his activities in the Labor Zion-
; ist Movement in Poland and
Belgium, editing Franco-Yiddish
papers in the latter country.
In America, he has written
and lectured widely on the
economic problems of Israel,
America and Russia. For a num-
ber of years, he served on the
Central Committee of the Labor
Zionist Organization of Amer-
ica and has headed its American
Affairs Committee.

Michigan State Fair Soon
Ready for Record Crowds

Summertime's grand climax,
the Michigan State Fair, is
nearly ready to open.
The dates for the exciting and
colorful event are Aug. 24
through Sept. 3. That's a week
earlier than usual, moved up
so fair-time no longer would
conflict with school-time.
More than a million visitor's,
a new attendance record, are
expected at this year's State
Fair, said Walter A. Goodman,
general manager.
