of what he does. I am not anti-Semitic and
never have been. My quarrel with Jews arose
before the war and does not now exist. It
arose before the war, because I thought some
Jews were trying to take us into war not in a
British, but in a Jewish quarrel. I can well
understand that. as their compatriots were
being so ill•treated in Germany they had a
quarrel—but it was not our quarrel. And I
adopted the classic English position of not
intervening in foreign wars. Curiously enough,
it was the Jewish Prime Minister, Mr. Disraeli,
who adopted that nosition when Mr. Gladstone
wanted to get us into war with the Armenians.
I was imposed to entering a war on behalf of
a few Jews in Germany, when it might lose
us thousands of lives—which it did.
"That brought 'Inc into a clash with Jewish
interests who wanted War. But now that the
war is Over, that issue and that quarrel are
over, and I would no more attack a Jew than
anybody else, unless he does something against
the interests of Britain".
