HAIFA—The Technion, Israel
Institute of Technology, an-
nounced that a gift from the
Harry and Abe Sherman Foun-
dation, Cardiff, Wales, will
make possible immediate con-
struction of a Nuclear Engineer-
ing Center on the Mt. Carmel
campus of Technion here. The

gift was made after a visit to
the Institute by Abe Sherman.
The structure will open up
new possibilities for Israel in
the field of a nuclear power
program for peacetime pur-
poses.
The Department of Nuclear
Science and Engineering at
the Technion was established
several years ago, and is the
only academic department in
Israel which offers a broad pro-
gram of instruction and re-
search in this field on both the
undergraduate and graduate
levels.

of the synagogue in recognition
of Congregation Ahavas Achim's
devotion to Israel and the cause
of Israel Bonds.
Rabbi Milton Arm will give
the tribute to Judge Kent. Can-
tor Simon Bermanis will lead in
the singing of the national an-
thems and in the Birkat Hama-
zon.

will appear in the choice quar-
tet spot in the Civic Center
Theater production of "THE
MUSIC MAN" at the Aqua
Theater on Belle Isle, Aug. 15
and 17. With a cast of over 150,
including a horse, this produc-
tion will be the premiere ama-
teur porformance anywhere of
Meredith Willson's wonderful
show that ran so long on Broad-
way. 4,000 bleacher seats are
available under the stars at
Belle Isle for this event. Show-
time is 8:15 p.m.

$792 Million Budget
Adopted by Knesset

JERUSALEM, (JTA) — A
national budget totaling 2,375,-
400,000 pounds ($791,800,000)
for the 1962-63 fiscal year was
adopted by the Knesset.
The total is 18,000,000 pounds
($6,000,000) more than draft
estimates submitted by the gov-
ernment before the Knesset. de-
bate began. The difference is
accounted for by an additional
grant for the national water
project and other special items.

Wales Family Makes
Large Gift to Technion
for Nuclear Center

STRATFORD, Ontario—Oscar
Shumsky, one of the three co-
directors of the Stratford Fes-
tival's music ,season and a per-
former in five weekend concerts
here this year, will exchange
his violin bow for a conductor's
baton on Aug. 12. For the "18th
Century Music" program, Shum-
skywill direct the National
Festival Orchestra, augmented
to 34 musicians, in a concert
devoted to Haydn, Mozart and
Boccherini.
Featured performers on this
the only full orchestra presenta-
tion of the 1962 music season,
will be Lois Marshall, soprano,
and Leonard Rose, cellist.

stick is a former president of
Temple Israel and is active in
the Old Newsboys and in many
other causes.
The program will be high-
lighted by Jan Bart, "Broad-
way Ambassador of Comedy
and Song," and by the Israeli
Ensemble of Instrumentalists,
headed by Israel Hochberg and
consisting of Avraham, Amir,
Ariele. Israel and Oded.
