Urge Supreme Court
to Uphold Rule 9

The Michigan Supreme Court
was urged to uphold Rule 9 in
a brief prepared for the Com-
mission on Law and Social Ac-
tion of the American Jewish
Congress.
The brief as friend of the
court was submitted in behalf
of the American Jewish Con-
gress, the American Civil Lib-
erties Union of Michigan and
the Michigan State Conference
of Branches, National Associa-
tion for the Advancement of
Colored People.
Erwin B. Ellman, attorney,
is author of the brief. He is
counsel to the Commission on
Law and Social Action, Ameri-
can Jewish Congress, and gen-
eral counsel for the American
Civil Liberties Union.
In urging the Michigan Su-
preme Court to reverse the de-
cision of the Ingham County
Circuit Court, the brief states
that Rule 9 was not only within
the jurisdiction of the Michigan
Corporation and Securities Com-
mission in regulating brokers
of real estate, but that the
Commission was doing no more
than discharging its responsi-
bility as -a state agency.
