THE HOTTER THE WATER...THE FURTHER IT GOES,

Wayne County Prosecutor
Samuel H. Olsen is winding up
his re-election campaign during
which he pledged, as public de-
fender, continuous protection
of citizens and their rights.
In his appearances before all
levels of people, Olsen reit-
erated his determination to pro-
tect the innocent "no matter
what."
Olsen explained that he does
not believe that there is any-
thing in the laws or rules that
a prosecutor cannot have com-
passion for his fellow man.

He emphasized that there is
a moral law as well as a crimi-
nal law. Under moral law the

rights of every citizen must be
carefully safeguarded against
accusation and prosecution.
Sam Olsen was a fine athlete
and after his graduation from
Northwestern University he
turned down an offer to play
major league baseball to pursue
his law studies. He was grad-
uated from Wayne State Uni-
versity Law School with hon-
ors.
Olsen organized the Criminal
Frauds Division in the Prose-
cutor's Office. Since the divi-
sion's inception, it has proc-
essed upwards of 50,000 com-
plaints totaling about $3,000,-
000—most of which was recov-
ered for the victims.
Olsen was the unanimous
choice of the 18 Circuit Judges
to fill the vacancy created by
the death of Gerald K. O'Brien.
At that time Olsen was cited
for his "outstanding perform-
ance as a trial lawyer." In 1958,
his first election, Olsen was re-
tained by an overwhelming ma-
jority and in 1960 was elected
again by a veritable landslide.
