Toronto Man Refutes
Charges of Nazi Past
As Aid of Eichmann

Dr. Joseph Kirschbaum, a Tor-
onto insurance executive who was
recently accused of charges that
he aided Adolph Eichmann in
Czechoslovakia by the Canadian
Jewish News, has denied he ever
talked with Eichmann.
Kirschbaum mentioned that
"he heard his name for the first
time when he was kidnapped in
Argentina. I certainly never was
at a meeting with him."
The Canadian Jewish news-
paper stated that he "co-operated
with Eichmann in deporting
Czechoslovakian Jews to Au-
schwitz and the crematoria."
The articles claimed Kirsch-
baum was a member of the
Slovak Nazi underground and
later became leader of the
"Hlinka Storm gangs," an elite
corps of the SS.
In reply to these charges,
Kirschbaum said he would "take
some steps to stop these _lies.
You certainly can't let these
statements stand against a per-
son who had nothing to do with
the Jewish question and was in
the diplomatic service."

Rakhel Recording Has Israeli Songs, Variety

Rakhel Hadass is a Yemenite
vocalist of unusual versatility.
Her latest album on Monitor
Records, MF 364, "Rakhel:
Songs of Israel," projects an
intimacy with every number
recorded.
The selections range from
the hauntingly beautiful desert
song, "Sa'enu," with its slow
cajoling rhythms and pulsating
melody, to the mockingly hum-
orous, "Ayil, Ayil." Bara-
chev" is an excellent example
of Rakhel's tasteful accompani-
ment, for the entire album
utilizes a complement of flute,
clarinet, cello, piano, guitar and
percussion, including the dur-
bakes and accordian.

"Shirat Haro'e" brings forth
the fire and spirit of a shepherd
and his flock in the land of
Canaan. Rakhel catches the
feeling of the meaningful text
and joyous melody. Her purity
of tone and articulate Hebrew
diction hold the listener's at-
tention through all fifteen selec-
tions.
