by British Jewish Relief Fund

LONDON (JTA)—The British
Fund for Jewish Relief and Re-;
habilitation announced Wednes-
dayit would make a special
appeal for funds to aid the Jew-
ish refugees from Algeria who
have been settled in France . ;
The plan was announced after
officials of the fund heard a
report that French Jewish com-
munity leaders were unable to
cope with the vastness of the
'needs of the thousands of
Algerian Jews who poured into
France in the weeks before the
July 1 referendum which made
Algeria an independent Moslem
country.
Oscar Joseph, chairman of the
British Fund and Charles A. Jor-;
dan, director general of the Joint
Distribution Committee, made
the reports. Joseph recently vis
ited France and Jordan and had
just returned from a survey of
conditions in Algeria. It -was

JERUSALEM, (JTA)—During
his recent official visit to Israel,

sented his government's high
decoration, the Grand Cross of
the Ivory Coast National Order,
to Prime Minister David Ben-
Gurion and Foreign Minister
Golda Meir.
The Ivory Coast is one of the
few governments that has, thus

JERUSALEM — Israel's parlia-
ment approved Monday, by a
vote of 42 to 15, a ban on pig-
raising.
The bill became law after a
third reading. It prohibits the
"raising, keeping or slaughter-
ing" of swine, except in Nazar-
eth and six other places which
have a large Christian popula-
tion.
Both Jewish and Moslem re-
ligious laws forbid eating of
pork.
The bill, introduced as a pri-
vate members measure by six
members of five parties, was sup-
ported by the three religious
parties, Mapai, Herut and the
Liberals.
The new law allows pig farm-
ers a year to dispose of present
holdings of pigs. After that date,
anyone caught raising the ani-
mals, except for scientific pur-
poses or display in zoos, will face
a fine of 1,000 pounds ($333).
Renting of premises_for pig sty
carries a fine of 500 pounds
($167).

in the U.S.S.R. Sen. Keating
charged the State Department
has done "almost nothing" to
protest against anti-Semitism in
the Soviet Union;

The Soviet court claimed Rez-
nik had been a member
"big merchant family" in Bes-
sarabia.
The trial at which Feldsher
and Goldman were convicted,
took place in the criminal court
of Frunze, capital of Kighizia.
Izvestia stated that 50 persons
were tried in proceedings that
lasted four months, and result-
ed in death sentences for four
of the accused, including Feld-
sher and Goldman. Others were
given long prison sentences.
In Washington, Sen. Kenneth
B. Keating demanded that the
State Department instruct the
newly-named U. S Ambassador
to the Soviet Union, Foy D.
Kohler, to "exert all his influ-
ence" to reduce anti-Semitism
