Fraenkel. the chief Federal
prosecutor, fired last Friday for
"political reasons," because he
had served Hitler's Peoples
Court and been a member of
the Nazi Party, will receive a
monthly pension of 1,633
Deutsch-marks (over $400) for
the rest of his life, it was re-
ported here by the Justice Min-
istry.
His pension will come into
effect, the Ministry said, after
he has received three months'
salary as dismissal pay.
Fraenkel. who was elevated
to his high post only last March,
was suspended 10 days ago,
after East German Communists
had come here from Leipzig,
bringing documentary proof
that he had been an assistant
prosecutor in Hitler's Peoples
Court during the war. In that
capacity, the archives showed,
he had participated in advanc-
ing to death sentences some
cases involving minor offenses.
A strong protest against the
pensioning of Fraenkel was made
Wednesday by the Central Or-
ganization of Democratic Resist-
ance Fighters.
A. Unger. the West German
president of the International
Federation of Resistance Fight-
ers, joined in the protest with
the disclosure that his organiza-
tion had suggested to the West
German government four years
ago that it seek to obtain from
the Communist East German
regime information on former
Nazis who received judicial
posts in West Germany.
