The "Masorah" is the expres-
sion used to refer to the offi-
cial tradition as handed down
from Sinai to Moses and on
down through the generations.
It sometimes refers to the offi-
cial text of the Bible which is,
of course, governed by the tra-
dition. The term comes from a
Hebrew root meaning "to hand,
over, or to transmit" (masar),
