Israel Manufacturers
Association Pledges to
Keep Prices Stable
(Direct JTA Teletype Wire
to The Jewish News)
JERUSALEM — The Israel
Manufacturers Association call-
ed Tuesday on its members to
keep their prices stable when
the cost of living allowance
for workers is raised this
month.
Representatives of the Asso-
ciation told Finance Minister
Levi Eshkol and Trade Minister
Pinhas Sapir that the manufac-
turers were willing to work
with other groups in the task
of preserving price stability
and that they would support
the government's new economic
policy which is aimed at greater
productivity as a means of
keeping prices steady and for
greater export sales.

The 1,750 yards long by 10
yards wide connection was
planned by the German com-
mand to be a passageway be-
tween Munich and Trieste for
the transport of supplies to the
burdened German armies in the
southeast.
Today, some 19 years later,
the tunnel will be used for
peaceful purposes, as motorists
travel from Austria to the
Yugoslav Adriatic coast, avoid-
ing a drive over the difficult,
4,480-foot-high Loibi Pass.

tunnel was built at a cost of
!literally thousands of lives.
A primitive crematorium was
erected at the south entrance
to the tunnel. How many died
there still is not known.
The tunnel was never com-
pleted by the German regime.
In 1960, after long hesitation
and in spite of many protests,
the Austrian Ministry of Trade
decided to provide about
$2,000,000 for the completion of
the 500 yards of tunnel on the
Austrian side. The Yugoslav
side was already completed.
