Kitchen Band Contest
at State Fair Aug. 30

A unique kitchen band con-
test, in which '75 percent of the
10 or more members must be 60
or older, will highlight the an-
nual Oldtimers Day program at
the Michigan State Fair Aug. 30.
Kitchen bands were so popu-
lar last year among senior citi-
zen groups that the contest now
has become an annual event.
Contestants may play two or
three numbers, not to exceed a
total time of twelve minutes.
Novelty numbers and original
costumes are encouraged.
Among other features of Old-
timers Day activities will be
the Nimble 60's crocheting con-
test for men or women 60 years
or older. Each entrant must
have his or her crochet hook,
size 12, a supply of mercerized
thread size 50, and the one who
completes the most scallops in
a half-hour will be declared the
winner. Advance copies of the
scallop pattern, for those who
wish to practice, can be ob-
tained.
In addition, the day's sched-
ule will include the traditional
contests for the Oldest Man,
Oldest Woman, Longest Mar-
ried Couple, Prettiest Hat (judg-
ed by audience applause), Bald-
est Head, Longest Moustache.
