Jewish Ledger Marks

33rd Anniversary

HARTFORD. Conn., (JTA) —
Congratulatory messages were
received by the Connecticut Jew-
ish Ledger from state govern-
mental officials on the Jewish
weekly's 33rd anniversary.
Founded in 1929 by the late
Samuel Neusner, with the assist-
ance of Rabbi Abraham J. Feld-
man, the weekly was originally
known as the Springfield Jewish
Ledger. Later the title was
changed to the present one as
the weekly's circulation and news
coverage was extended to cover ,
the entire state. Rabbi Feldman
has been the only editor of the
Ledger since it was started 33
years ago.

Prussian Ship Builder

the objections of most of the
non-Jewish shippers.

One of the favorite methods
of preparing sweetbreads is to
bread cubes in egg and crumbs,
saute them in a little shorten-
ing, and serve them on toast,
with the shortening from the
pan poured over all. Equally
well-liked are sweetbreads slic-
ed and sauteed with mush-
rooms, or heated in sauces. In
Devilled Sweetbreads the spicy
sauce contrasts well with the
blandness of the meat, and also
utilizes some of the liquid in
which it simmered. For a de-
lightful change from chicken.
try a salad of sweetbreads.
When combined with cucum-
bers, as this one is, the result
is so refreshing and cool it will
delight the appetite on the hot-
test day.

Studio in Israel Planned
by Hollywood Producer
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (JTA)
—Ed H. Leftwich, head of Fu-
turamic Productions in Califor-
nia and Futuramic Productions,
Ltd., of Israel, announced he
would build a movie studio in
Israel, with the help of a $350,-
000 loan from the government
of Israel, to produce films for
the world market.
The studio will be located
near Tel Aviv, he said, and the
first picture, on which shooting
is expected to start early in
1963, will be "The Last Ven-

merce.
He reported that 17 counties
were represented in the con-
gress which was greeted by
Pinhas Sapir, Commerce Minis-
ter.
An official United State
Trade Mission concluded a
four-week visit Tuesday with
. plans to recommend 362 en-
terprises in Israel as poten-
tial areas of interest to Amer-
ican exporters and investors.
There were indications that
the mission participants felt.
that the four weeks was too
short a period to cover all such
potential fields and it appeared
likely that the mission would
recommend that another Ameri-
can business delegation should
be sent to Israel for a more
comprehensive study of such
possibilities. The current mis-
sion has prepared about 100
specific recommendations for
prospective American business
activities in Israel.

Letter Box

Mayor's Invitation to
Freedom Festival Events
Editor. The Jewish News:
From June 28 through July
4, Detroit and Windsor will cel-
: ebrate the third International
Freedom Festival.
As in past years the theme
of the festival is an interna-
tional recognition of the fruits
of our joint liberty and inde-
pendence which stand .as shin-
ning examples of the value of
cooperation between nations.
During the six days of the festi-
val there will be many exhibits,
shows and other events com-
memorating the heritage we
share and demonstrating our
determination to preserve it.
The Detroit and Windsor civic
centers will again be the set-
ting for the festival. I can
think of no better opportunity
for the citizens of Detroit and
the surrounding area to visit
our new Civic Center.
I extend a personal invitation
to all the residents of the De-
troit area to attend as many
of the events as possible. This
is your festival and your sup-
port of it will be a dramatic and
meaningful demonstration of
the vital community spirit
which is carrying Detroit for-
ward.
I am sure you will enjoy
yourself thoroughly and come
away with renewed appreciation
of the city in which you live
and the freedoms you enjoy.
Sincerely yours,
JEROME P. CAVANAGH
