Mrs. Broner Awarded
Wayne's 1st M.A.
in Creative Writing

The first master's degree in
creative writing ever to be
awarded at Wayne State Uni-
versity was presented Thursday
'evening to Mrs. Robert (Esther)
Broner, 18981 Greenlawn.
Mrs. Broner, 31, is the mother
of four children. She received
her B.A. degree
from Wayne
over 10 years
ago.

Last year Mrs. Broner won
a scholarship to the New York
City Writers Workshop.
She has taught creative writ-
ing evenings at Mumford High
School.
Robert Broner, her husband,
is a well known artist, who has
had a number of one - man
shows in Detroit, Los Angeles
and Chicago and whose prints

are in leading art institutes and

private collections. He teaches
at the Society of Arts a n d
Crafts and is Detroit correspon-
dent for Art in America and
Craft Horizons.

During the past decade, the
University of Michigan econom-
ics department ranked in the
top 10 nationally in contribu-
tions to leading scholarly jour-
nals in its field, according to
a study published in the Amer-
ican Economic Review.

A musicale honoring Ruth and Judy Baumer, daughters of
Dr. and Mrs. Moe Baumer, on their forthcoming marriages to
Murray Miskin and Joel Eisner, respectively, was given by Mr.
and Mrs. I. Goodman Cohen at their home on June 9. The program
included a piano concerto played by Deborah Baumer and cham-
ber music by a trio, Daniel Chesluk, piano; Matthew Michakoff,
violin; and Dennis Cohen, cello. Cantor Reuven Frankel sang a
number of vocal selections, accompanied by Bella Goldberg at
the piano.
Knollwood Country Club will be the scene of a dinner to be
given June 26 by Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cantor, 18467 Littlefield,
in honor of their son, George Nathan, on the occasion of his 21st
birthday and graduation from Wayne State University. Elected
to Phi Beta Kappa, Cantor was the senior with the highest aca-
demie average among those initiated. He was president of the
Wayne chapter of Sigma Delta Chi, pr9fessional journalism
society, and served as editorial director of the Wayne - Daily
Collegian the past semester.
