JERUSALEM — Construction
of thousands of new housing
units, chiefly for new immi-
grants, will begin soon in a
number of Israel's leading
cities, following an agreement
concluded here between the
Ministry of Housing and vari-
ous city mayors.
Under the agremeent, a new
residential quarter to be called
Israeliah, will be developed in
the vicinity of Haifa's Neveh
Shanan area. -
This quarter will contain
more than 2,000 dwelling units.
Five hundred homes will be
built in Jerusalem, 4,000 near
Bat Yam, a beach suburb of Tel
Aviv; and more than 1,000 in
the Kiryat Nordau quarter of
Nathanya.

To former Detroiter Fred
Hittman came high recognition
for expertness in nuclear sci-
ence, in the form of an assign-
ment given him by the Martin

space division of the Martin

to study the application of
space-age miniaturization to the
development of small, light-
weight nuclear power plants for
use in remote areas of the
earth, and Hittman, the 32-year-
old principal scientist for Mar-
tin's Nuclear Division, has been
named program manager for
the study effort.
