Marks 75th Year

PHILADELPHIA, (JTA) —
With a 100-page issue which
included valuable, historical
articles, as well as greetings
from President Kennedy, Penn-
sylvania Governor David J.
Lawrence, Phithdelphia Mayor
James H. T. Tate and national
and local leaders of the Jewish
community, the Jewish Expo-
nent, a weekly published here.
celebrated its 75th anniversary
this week.
The Exponent's first issue
was published April 15, 1887.
The editors were Henry S. Mo-
rais, Charles Hoffman and Mel-
vin G. Winstock. while the
business manager was Nathan
Billstein. Albert H. Lieberman
is now president of the news-
paper's board of directors;
Sylvan B. Kling is editlor; and
Jules D. Miller is business man-
ager. The newspaper has an
audited circulation of 52,723.
Among national Jewish lead-
ers who greeted the Exponent
on its birthday were Edward
M. M. Warburg, chairman of
the Joint Distribution Commit-
tee; Simon Litt, president of the
National Jewish Welfare Board;
Joseph Meyerhoff, general chair-
man of the United Jewish Ap-
peal; Dr. Joachim Prinz, presi-
dent of the American Jewish
Congress; and Irving Kane,
president of the Council of Jew-
ish Federations and Welfare
Funds.
Special greetings were re-
ceived also from the heads of
the city's two largest daily
newspapers, The Philadelphia
Inquirer and the Evening Bul-
letin.
