Frankfurter to Return
to Bench in October
WASHINGTON, (JTA) — Su-
preme Court Justice Felix Frank-
furter will not return to his ju-
dicial duties for the remainder of
the Court's present term.
The 79-year-old jurist, still re-
portedly "improving" following a
mild stroke early this month,
is expected to be back with the
opening of the Court's new term
in October. His decision not to
come hack to the bench before
the fall was prompted by the
advice of his physicians.

tive vice president, called on
Inon-Zionists to oppose what he
termed an infringement of their
"basic American rights and po-

that the Zionist ideal "expresses
the nobelest aspirations of Jew-
ish life and recognizes the age-
old yearnings of the Jewish peo-
ple as expressed in the Bible."
Terming the assertion that
American Zionists have a dou-
ble nationality "pure nonsense,"
the Zionist Council said that
Rabbi Berger had demonstrated
his "abysmal ignorance both of
Judaism and the traditional
cultural pluralism inherent ni
the American way of life."
Milton J. Silberman, chair-
man of the Illinois Conference
of Jewish Organizations, repre-
senting 95 per cent of the local
Jewish community. said that the
American Council for Judaism
"does not speak for American
Jews and it would perform a
service to America as well as to
Jews everywhere if it were to
give up its lost struggle in a
discredited cause and disap-
pear from the American scene."
At the same time, former
President Eisenhower h a s
praised the work of the Coun-
cil for Judaism "in furthering
understanding of traditional
