Born on New York's Lower
East Side, Hy Sands is the son
of a cantor, from whom he
learned the folklore of Jewish
life. As a boy he was a soprano
in Cantor Rosenblatt's choir.
Ile has starred on TV with
Milton Berle, Kate Smith, Mar-
tin and Lewis, Danny Kaye and
Eddie Cantor.
Hy Sands' career in the
Borscht Belt and in night clubs
in Miami. •Chicago, Las Vegas
and other cities was interrupted
by service during the war. Upon
his return home he worked with
Barney Ross collecting used
military uniforms for shipment
to the Haganah.
In addition to Hy Sands, the
program will include Israeli
songs and instrumental selec-
tions by the Israeli Ensemble of
six artists. Admission is free
and everyone is welcome.
