Israel Cabinet
Studies Plans to
Thwart Inflation
JERUSALEM, (JTA) — A
Ministerial Committee selected by
the Israel Cabinet started to
study various proposals to meet
the threat of inflation as a result
of the insistence by many leading
sectors of organized labor that
the government pay increases in
the cost-of-living allowances in
July, in cash.
Among the plans to be studied
by the committee is one proposed
by Finance Minister Levi Eshkol
who has been urging that at
least part of the boost in cost-
of-living allowances be paid in
the form of government savings
bonds.

Officials to Stage
1-Day Wage Strike
JERUSALEM, (JTA) — In
spite of appeals by the Govern-
ment Civil Service Commission
and by the Labor Council of
Histadrut, the Israel Federation
of Labor, some 2,000 of Israel's
topmost government office ad-
ministrators carried out previ-
ously announced plans by staging
a one-day "stay away" strike
Monday.
The office and agency heads
implemented their threat of a
one-day stoppage to emphasize
demands that their salary levels
be raised. so as to keep their
earnings higher than many of
their subordinates who, they con-
tend, are now getting more pay
than the managers.
