Sol Selman's 'Pro menade Through
Shtetl' Paintings Go on Exhibit

Celebration to be held at 2
p.m., May 6, at the Jewish
Center. The cantata, high-
light of the program, which
will include Israeli songs and
dances, was written by Av-
rom Surath and Judy Mill-
man of the Bnai Brith Youth
Organization. The director is
Sheldon Slavin of Temple
Beth El. Rehearsals are being
conducted for the program in
which the major Detroit Jew-
ish youth organizations are
participating. Admission is
free and there will be re-
freshments. The co-sponsors
are the Jewish Community
Center and the Jewish Na-
tional Fund.

joint installation of officers
8:30 p.m. Saturday at the JWV
Memorial Home. Mrs. Esther
Feld, president, Department of
Michigan Ladies Auxiliary, will
be installing officer for the

is Auxiliary president and

A Detroit artist's creative
works, the- recent paintings of
Sol Selman, will go on display
this Sunday at Crest Gallery,
10501 W. 8-Mile, between Mey-
ers and Wyoming and will con-
tinue through May 20.
Under the heading "Prome-
nade Through the Shtetl," the
38 Selman paintings include
holiday themes, personalities,
synagogues and various "shtetl"
haracters.
At the age of 10, in his native
Ukraine, Selman already began
to express himself in illustra-
tions of people and events in
his area.
Coming to Detroit in 1920. he
became a patron of the arts,
organized the Society of Jew-
ish Artists, which later became
tor, and Nathan Gold, historian. the Detroit Art Club, and '

Marion Stein has departed for an extended visit to France

Mrs. Oscar L. Olson and Mrs. Jules R. Schubot will be co-
chairmen for Detroit's fabulous Cinderella Ball to be held at
the Sheraton Cadillac Hotel Oct. 6. The announcement was made
by Mrs. James H. Quello, newly-elected chairman of the Women's
Committee of the Tuberculosis and Health Society.
