Jewish Vocational
Services Give Aid
to Over 98,000

•

The Biblical and historical
heritage of the Jewish people
is being recalled with a series
of striking medals to herald the
"Twelve Tribes" of ancient Is-
rael.
The rampant Lion of Judah
denoting the most powerful of
the Twelve Tribes is the first
to be announced.
One thousand .999 fine silver
and 2,500 bronze medals will
be struck for each Tribe.
The medals can be purchased
directly from the North Holly-
wood Stamp and Coin Shop,
North
11738 Victory Blvd.,
Hollywood, Calif., or from a local
coin dealer.

More than 98,000 persons were
aided in 1961 by the 24 Jewish
vocational services located in the
major cities of the United States
and Canada, affiliated with the
Jewish Occupational Council.
Approximately 40,000 of these
persons were seeking immediate
employment and 12,500 were
placed in jobs.
Samuel S. Greenberg of De-
troit, president of the Jewish Oc-
tupational Council, said that
among the job seekers aided 'by
the Jewish Vocational Services
were 7,700 Jewish refugees re-
cently arrived from Europe,
Egypt and Cuba.
Of these, 2,000 refugees were
placed directly and many more
found jobs as a result of job

counseling and information re-
ceived.
Greenberg said that approxi-
mately 29,000 persons were given
individual counseling services in
the same year. Vocational tests
were administered to 7,340 per-
sons in connection with indi-
vidual counseling.
In addition to these services,

the Jewish Vocational Services
conducted guidance activities in
each community in cooperation
with synagogues, temples, Jew-
ish centers and Bnai Brith chap-
ters and lodges. 28,000 Jewish
youth were helped in these pro-

Mrs. FDR Prais es Hebrew U Library : Series

Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt, shown with Dr. Curt D. Wormann,
director of the Jewish National and University Library of the
Hebrew University of Jerusalem, examines files of the library's
extensive American collection. She said she was "astonished
to find so many books dealing with my husband, with Theo-
dore Roosevelt and with Abraham Lincoln." Mrs. Roosevelt
praised the institution as "one of the great libraries of the
world" after visiting the Hebrew University's new central
campus at Givat Ram, Jefferson, which is now being completed
with the help of the American Friends of the Hebrew
University.

A study of 1,065 resort
hotels and motels in the United
States, Canada, and the West
Indies indicated that at least
22 per cent clearly discriminate
against Jews.
