THE ROSE PETAL
ON THE CUP

ACCORDING to ancient custom, it was a mark
of unusual hospitality for a hostess to fill a cup
of broth to. the brim, and then as an added
gesture place a rose petal on the brimming
surface.
The rose petal was definitely a token of
good will. It made the beverage no richer in
taste; it signified no greater quantity. It was
merely an indication that the person who
furnished it wanted to do everything possible
to make her offering as pleasing as possible
to the one who received it.
Times have changed. Few of us put rose
petals on cups any more. But in the business
would w edo many things that take their
place. Unfortunately the word which describes
the rose petals of today has been worn thread-
bare and meaningless. "Service" is trite in
name, but not in action.
Here at our office we strive for a definite
goal in this matter of serving our clients and
customers. Frankly, we 'want to be known as
distinctively understanding and helpful in all
ways. We realize that this takes years of day-

in-and-day-out performance of seemingly little
extra services.
Few things please us more than to have
people tell us that they enjoyed dealing with us.
Figuratively, such a response gives us the
same kind of glow it must have given the
hostess of ancient times. A guest has under-
stood fully the friendly meaning of the rose
petal on the cup.
