Youth Will Celebrate
Israel's Anniversary

Jewish youth of Detroit will

the preliminary planning are

ception. As the only Jewish boy
in the Parks Recreation Pee-
Wee Hockey League he is com-
bining his Bar Mitzvah classes
held twice each week with a
rigorous sports schedule.
David is marking his third
year on the team and has had
more time on the ice than any
other player in the league. He
recently returned from a game
in Delhi, Canada and has played
in Ann Arbor and Toronto.

Among his varied interests
are horseback riding and
swimming. In 1959 David was
the Soft Ball League cham-
pion and won top Little
League honors in 1960.
Another favorite sport is fig-
ure skating but, ironically,
David finds this more danger.
ous than hockey. "I get hurt
figure skating every time,"

he says.
"The only time I ever got
hurt playing hockey, I got a
busted nose in practice but be-
fore that all I had was a couple
of bruises and stuff."
An all-A student at Dow Jun-
ior High School, D'avid is also
a Detroit News carrier.
David's ambition is to be a
lawyer like his father. He is the
son of Lawrence Gubow, U.S.
Attorney for Eastern Michigan,
appointed by Attorney General
Robert Kennedy, and Mrs. Gubow.

With his parents, David has
traveled to Washington and
to Democratic Party national
conventions. He has met such
noted persons as the King

Edison Official Urges
Kite Flying Caution

There's fun in the wind as
Michigan youngsters get ready to
fly their first kites of the 1962
season.
To keep the fun in and danger
out of flying kites for these boys
and all kite enthusiasts, L.
Clancy Nanry, director of safety
for Detroit Edison, offers these
simple rules:
1. Select a kite-flying site
away from overhead wires, trees,
highways and railroad rights-of-
way.
2. Construct the kite frame of
lightweight wood.
3. Fly the kite with stout, dry,
all-fibre cord — avoid metaillic
threads or wire. Metallic cord
can carry electricity to your
hand and cause painful injury or
fatal shock.
4. If the kite catches on a
pole or tree, do not risk an
electric shock or bad fall by try-
ing to retrieve it.
5. Never fly your kite during
an electrical storm. Ben Frank-
lin used a kite in his famous
experiment with electricity, but
he was lucky not to have been
killed.
6. When you're running to
raise your kite, watch your step
rather than the kite — it may
save you a bad tumble.
Nanry said, "If you use the
proper materials and follow
these rules, kite flying can be
fun and safe, too."

Croyden House Potato
Kugel Mix Comes in
Pan, Eliminates Grating

Croyden House Potato Kugel
Mix eliminates mountains of
grating and requires just the
addition of eggs and water.
The potatoes are pre-grated,
all other ingredients are in,
and even the baking pan is in-
cluded. The pudding bakes in
about 50 minutes and makes
six to eight generous servings.
Potato Kugel Mix is also a
base for pancakes and dump-
lings. The product is prepared
under strict rabbinical super-
vision and is kosher for Pass-
over. It is now available at
leading supermarkets.
Other kosher and pareve
products manufactured under
the Croyden House label are
complete chow mein dinner,
meatless chow mein, Chinese
fried rice and instant soup
mixes, including bee, onion and
chicken.

Levinson Writes JFK About Efforts of
F.H.A. Office Here, C ites Leadership

In a move that may be unique
in relationships with the matter-
of-fact acceptance and imper-
sonal image of government
agencies, the efforts and leader-
ship of one here has been called
to the attention of President
Kennedy by an appreciative cor-
ner.
". . . I have called to the Pres-
ident's attention," says Franklin
Mortgage Corporation President
Benjamin Levinson, the "out-
standing and tremendous job the
Detroit F.H.A. insuring office is
doing . . ."
Levinson specifically cited
Dwight K. Hamborsky, director;
James Conway, assistant direc-
tor; George Strye, chief of ap-
praisers; and Leo Petz, chidf of
the Mortgage Credit Depart-
ment.
"They have contributed so
much to help Detroit become a
city of home owners," Levinson
said. His letter to President
Kennedy said, in part, that "the
Detroit F.H.A. office (is) one
of the most efficient and out-
standing government agencies in
our country . I sincerely hope,
Mr. President, that you will find
time to recognize these wonder-
ful public servants for their out-

standing contribution

to their
government and to their fellow

man."
