ADAS SHALOM MEN'S CLUB
will present the "Man of the
Year Award" to Manny Lax at
a cocktail dinner-party in his
honor 6:30 p.m. April 8 at the
synagogue. Entertainment and
dancing to music of Dave Dia-
mond's orchestra will highlight
the event. Lax was chosen for
the honor for his "exceptional
and dedicated service to the
welfare of the Men's Club and
the synagogue," according to
Jack H. Kaufman, president of
the selection committee. Lax is
a former president of both the
synagogue and the Men's Club.
He recently acted as chairman
of the Metropolitan Detroit In-
ter-Congregational Men's Club
Dinner. Members of the com-
mittee which judged the poten-
tial recipients include Joseph
Koenig, William Zimmerman,
Dr. Lou Beresh, Sam Kane, Lou
Weinstein and Morris Zelenko.

The Great Lakes regional
conference of the National
Federation of Jewish Men's
Clubs held last week-end in
Cong. Bnai Israel in London,
Ontario, elected Sam Zelvy of
Cleveland as president. The fol-
lowing were elected from De-
troit Conservative congrega-
tions: I. M u rr a y Jacobs, of
Shaarey Zedek, Saul Waldman,
of Adas Shalom, and Max Sil-
verman, of Beth Aaron, vice
presidents; Carl Lichtenstein,
of Adas Shalom, recording
secretary. and Ben Sidlow, of
Shaarey Zedek, treasurer. Abra-
ham Satovsky is honorary presi-
dent of the region.
Participating in the program
were Jacobs and Katzman in
the workshop on youth activi-
ties. Satovsky who was chair-
man of the workshop on
"Levels of organization and
Planning," installed the newly
elected officers.

The conference passed a
resolution in memory of Carl
Schiller, a past president of
the region.
Elected to the board of di-
rectors from Detroit congrega-
tion are: George Parzen, Frank
Rosenbaum, Abe Katzman and
Allan Charlip; from Adas Sha-
lom, Joseph Koenig, Dr. Louis
Beresh, Donald Nusholtz, Meyer
Millma n, Nate Lux, Allen
Rosenberg, Joseph Sulkes,
David Schwartz, Eugene Fried-
man, Irving Bernstein, Fred
Weiss. Benjamin Weiss of Bnai
Moshe is a past president of
the region.
