American Nazis Ask
Va. Governor Not
to Revoke Charter

RICHMOND. Va., (JTA) —
The American Nazi Party asked
Virginia Governor Albettis S.
Harrison to veto the State As-
sembly-passed bill revoking the
party's state charter.
The appeal, made by national
secretary I:arl R. Allen, also con-
tained a request for a personal
meeting with the governor to
argue th- case for a veto. If
Harrison signs the bill, the char-
ter will be voided June 1.
NEW YORK, (JTA)—A stu-
dent organization at Hunter Col-
lege. one of the components of
the University of the City of
New York, announced it has in-
vited as speakers both George
Lincoln Rockwell, head of the
American Nazi Party. and Gus
Hall, general secretary of the
Communist Party of the United
States.
The announcement was made
by Harlan P. Kleiman, a founder
of a new Hunter College campus
organization, t h e Competency
Party. Kleiman is also president
of the student government. He
said Rockwell will address the
students April 11, while Hall will
speak on the campus two weeks
later. The campus newsletter,
The Uptowner, criticized the invi-
tation to Rockwell.

NEW YORK — The City of
New York, under court order to
provide Nazi George Rockwell
with a site for a public rally,
notified him Tuesday that he
could use a small park at the
foot of Manhattan for that pur-
pose on April 20.
Park Commissioner Newbold
Morris, replying to a Rockwell
request for a permit to hold his
rally at Union Square in the
heart of Manhattan, denied the
request and offered Jeanette
Park on the waterfront.
The Commissioner informed
the head of the American Nazi
Party that the park would ac-
commodate about 1,200 people
and has adequate comfort sta-
tion facilities." A speaker stand
was promised.
The Commissioner declared

11 at the home of Mrs. Ronald
Kottler, 19510 Burlington. His
subject is entitled "The School
Bell and the Church Steeple—
Can We Keep Them Apart?"
Dessert luncheon will be
served at both meetings. •

that April 20, which Rockwell
wants to celebrate as Hitler's
birthday is "a business day" in
Union Square which "is heavily
used by neighboring office work-
ers and store employes."
The Supreme Court of New
York last year upheld a decision
of lower courts that the Com-
missioner could not deny Rock-
well a permit "unless it is dem-
onstrated" that "such expres-
sion will immediately and irre-
parably injure the publ:c
welfare."
The issue was taken to the
courts by Rockwell. aided by the
American Civil Liberties Union,
when Rockwell's initial applica-
tion for a permit was rejected
by Mayor Wagner.
(University of Pittsburgh stu-
dents rejected a request from
Rockwell that he address them
on his views.)
