Appoline, a pioneer Zionist and
an eminent engineer, died Satur-
day at the age of 82.
Funeral services were held
Sunday at Kaufman Chapel.
He is survived by his wife,
Frances; sons, Drs. Alex and
Sidney Friendlaender; daughter,
Mrs. Sara Stern; sister, Mrs.
Betty Robinson of Muskegon, and
eight grandchildren.
A lifelong Zionist, he pio-
neered in encouraging technical
aid to Jewish settlers in Pales-
tine. With the late Samuel N.
Heyman he was one of the organ-
izers of the Zionist Engineering
Society.
He was associated with the
Old Buick Motors Co., Detroit
Pressed Steel Co., • Burroughs
Adding Machine Co., Maxwell
Chalmers Co., Chrysler Corp. and
Briggs Manufacturing Corp.
From 1910 to 1917, he was
associated with Charles Stein-
metz in the General Electric
Corporation. He also was asso-
ciated with Chrysler Arsenal.
Born in Latvia, he was gradu-
ated from the Berlin Polytechnic
Institute in 1907, the year he
came to the United States.
He was a member of the Zion-
ist Organization, Beth Aaron
Synagogue and a number of en-
gineering societies.
Auto Plows into Hadassah Women

LOS ANGELES—Two women
were killed and eight others in-
jured Wednesday, when an auto
plowed into a group of 200
women leaving a Beverly Hills
Hadassah luncheon at the Bev-
erly Hills Hotel.
Killed instantly was Mrs. Rosa
S. Fishman, '77, of Los Angeles.
Mrs. Esther Hoffman, 72, of

Morris Israel, of 18065 Ohio,
organizer and owner of Buddy
Plumbing and Heating Co., died
last Friday at the age of 61.
Funeral services were held that
afternoon at Kaufman Chapel.
He is survived by his wife,
Ethel; sons, Jack and Harold;
two brothers, William and Hy-
man; three sisters, Mrs. Harry
Latt, Mrs. Minnie Feldstein and
Florence Israel, and three grand-
children.
He was a member of the Zion-
ist Organization, Keidan Bnai
Brith Lodge, Knollwood Country
Club and Board of Commerce.

Mrs. Hoffman, wife of the
driver of the car, David Hoff-
man, 79, was entering her hus-
band's car when it shot back-
ward into the group of women.
Hoffman said he believed the
car's transmission was in neu-
tral. He was put under sedation
by a family doctor.
Mrs. Hoffman was active in
Los Angeles area Hadassah and
Pioneer Women.

Dies at Age of 48

Shrewsbury, president of Detroit
Auto Dealers Association, died
Saturday at the age of 48. Funeral
services were held Monday at
Temple Beth EL
Surviving are his wife, Mary
Rita; sons, John and Philip; par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Kess-
ler, and a brother, Stanley.
He was widely known in auto-
mobile circles and gained recog-
nition for his organizational lead-
ership.
Born in Youngstown, he came
to Detroit 33 years ago and has
been in the retail automobile
field for 25 years.
He served in army ordnance
for five years during World War
II. He was president of Temple
Beth El Men's Club and a mem-
ber of Franklin Hills and the
Standard Club. He was active in
the Allied Jewish Campaign and
other causes.
10th Anniversary
of Weizmann's Death

JERUSALEM, (JTA)—A spe-
cial program of events to mark
the tenth anniversary of the
death of Chaim Weizmann, first
President of Israel, was sub-
mitted to the Knesset by Prime
Minister David Ben-Gurion.
President Weizmann died Nov.
9, 1962.
Israel Offers Turkey
Agricultural Training
ISTANBUL, (JTA) — Israel
has invited Turkey to send agri-
cultural students to Israel for
further training, it was an-
nounced here when a number of
Parliament members endorsed
the move.
Among those who hailed .
Iirael's achievements in agri-
culture, and expressed the hope
that Turkey would learn from
Israel, were Senators Mualla
Akarca and Sedat Cumrali.
They were applauded by a
majority of the Senate as well
as by President Cemal Gursel.

Hayut, former Israeli Labor

the past 11 years, director of
the political department of the
Histadrut, Israel's Federation
of Labor, died here last week-
end at the age of 58.
Born in the Ukraine, Dr.
Hayut studied in Canada before
settling in Palestine in 1934,
where he became a member of
the Haifa Labor Council. He
served in the Washington post
from 1948 to 1950.
