on Soviet Union, Dies
OBITUARIES
NEW YORK (JTA)-David J.
Dallin, a prominent American-
Jewish writer and an outstand-
ing expert on the Soviet Union,
died here Feb. 21 at the age of
72. Author of 10 books on Rus-
sia, Dallin dealt frequently with
the situation of the Soviet Jews
in his books.
Born in Rogenev, Byelorussia,
Dallin was imprisoned for anti-
Czarist activities when he was
20 years old. He was later exiled
to Germany and was expelled
by the Nazis in 1935. He came
to the United States at the out-
break of the Second World War.
He was a contributing editor of
the New Leader.
